Introduction to Conflict Negotiation and Mediation

PILPG has 30 years of experience training civilians, civil society, and other parties on the skills needed to most effectively represent their delegation’s interests in an international peace negotiation. This page includes a link to the appendix to Dr. Paul R. Williams’ “Lawyering Peace” book, which provides information on a number of peace agreements and the conflicts that lead up to them. This page also provides an overview of concepts that are important to be familiar with when beginning to prepare to partake in a peace negotiation process.

Background Reading

The appendix of the Lawyering Peace book contains a brief summary of several key peace agreements.  For each peace agreement, the entry sets forth the conflict drivers, including the nature of atrocity crimes if any, the nature of the peace process, the core elements of the peace agreement, and the current status of implementation.
